History

"Callie Furnace, Hileman, Waring & Co., Clifton Forge, Alleghany county. Furnace in Botetourt county. One stack, 43 x 10, built in 1873-4 for charcoal, but since enlarged and changed to coke; ores, half neutral hematite and half Bessemer, from the furnace property; product, foundry and mill pig iron.
